$9.00/hr

Shift:    Monday - Friday   10 hours per week - days & hours vary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Mental health consumer that has been diagnosed or in recovery from a mental illness within the past two (2) years who is willing to be a role model for adults with serious or persistent mental illness.
• Certification by the Florida Certification Board preferred

Requirements

• Criminal background check

• Department of Motor Vehicles check

• Current and valid driver's license with no more than six (6) points

• Employment references check

• Drug screening
 

Description

• The Peer Specialist serves as a clinical member of a multidisciplinary team in the department/service.
• Provides a peer viewpoint about the recovery process, symptom management, and the persistence required by clients with severe and persistent mental illnesses to maintain a healthy life style. 
• Collaborates to promote a team culture that recognizes, understands, and respects each client’s point of view, experiences, and preferences. 
• Maximize client choice, self-determination, and decision making in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of treatment, rehabilitation, and support services. 
• Provides peer counseling, consultation, practical help and support, mentoring, advocacy, coordination, problem-solving, direct assistance, supervision, and side-by-side support to clients, families, and team staff support of the client’s health and wellness efforts;  serve as liaison with community resources;  carry out rehabilitation and support functions;  and assist in treatment, substance abuse services, education, support, and consultation to families, and crisis intervention. 
• May perform professional duties and clinical supervision if appropriate professional credentials are attained.
